About the Role
Our client is a Victorian Government organisation working to improve how Victorians and businesses interact with the state government by streamlining and digitising services. They are currently seeking a Project Accountant to come in and join their team in the Melbourne CBD on a contract role for 6 months with possible extensions.
Please note this position has an ASAP start requirement. Only candidates with immediate availability or short notice periods will be considered
Candidates for this position must have:
- Strong system implementation experience.
- Experience in financial governance, including reconciliations, controls, audit readiness and compliance
- Management accounting experience, including high‐level financial analysis, and the ability to present complex financial information
As the Project Accountant, you will play a central role in providing financial leadership and support for the implementation and future enhancements of the new RTBA bonds management system. You will work closely with the project team and key internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain robust financial governance, including reconciliations, controls, reporting, and process design.
Key responsibilities will include:
Project Leadership & Delivery: Lead the finance project team in the end-to-end implementation of the bond management system. This includes ensuring effective cross-functional coordination, maintaining strict financial oversight, and ensuring all project milestones and objectives are met on schedule.
Financial Governance & Control: Establish and maintain a robust governance framework for current and future system enhancements. This involves implementing rigorous reconciliation processes, internal financial controls, and corporate reporting standards to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance.
Strategic Resourcing & Sustainability: Develop and execute a long-term resourcing strategy to support ongoing system evolution. This includes transitioning project-based efforts into a permanent, sustainable finance function capable of providing high-quality, continuous support for the system.
Operational Excellence & Advisory: Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the RTBA to ensure full regulatory compliance. Serve as a strategic partner by providing expert financial advice and insights to senior leadership.
About You
You will be an experienced Project Accountant with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Demonstrated capability in financial governance, including reconciliations, controls, audit readiness and compliance within complex system or transformation environments.
- Proven experience contributing to or leading the finance workstream of complex projects, including managing risks and issues, supporting project planning, preparing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with governance and reporting requirement.
- Highly developed ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with senior leaders, project partners, technical specialists and other stakeholders, working collaboratively to resolve issues and achieve shared project outcomes
- Demonstrated capability to lead and develop small teams, supporting staff capability building and contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Demonstrated analytical, reconciliation and reporting skills, including the ability to interpret and manipulate large volumes of financial data, assure data integrity, and support decision‐making
- Extensive management accounting experience, including high‐level financial analysis, and the ability to present complex financial information clearly to both financial and non‐financial audiences.
