Role Objective
As the Production Second-in-Charge, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Production Supervisor in daily operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for a high-potential individual- such as a Graduate Engineer with foundational manufacturing experience- who possesses some supervisory exposure and wants to step into a structured leadership pathway. You will provide hands-on leadership, mentor a dedicated team, and drive operational efficiencies on the shop floor.
Key Accountabilities
- Team Leadership & Supervision: Directly supervise, train, and mentor a production team of 12 operators and labour hire staff to drive high performance.
- Operational Support: Assist the Production Supervisor with day-to-day operations and comfortably assume the shift supervisor lead when they are off-site.
- Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve immediate machinery and production-related issues to minimise downtime and ensure continuous output.
- Safety First Culture: Role-model and uphold rigorous site safety initiatives, driving a proactive "Never Walk Past" culture to maintain a Zero Harm environment.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to World Class Manufacturing principles, monitor weekly consumable stock takes, and identify opportunities for cost reductions and process improvements.
About YOU:
- Qualifications: Ideally a Graduate Engineer with at least 1 year of experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Leadership Capability: Proven foundational experience supervising or leading staff, with the ability to effectively delegate and support a team.
- Operational Flexibility: Full availability and willingness to adapt to a 24/7 rotating roster layout (including day/night shifts, weekends, and overtime).
- Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding communication skills with the ability to listen, engage, and build strong relationships across the operations and maintenance teams.
- Organisational Acumen: Excellent planning, time management, and prioritisation capabilities to meet strict production deadlines.
