Location: Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs
Contract Length: 3–6 months (Temporary Assignment)
Daily Rate: $580 – $727 per day + Superannuation
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Initial office presence, moving to up to 2 days WFH)
About the Role
A major Local Government organisation in the Eastern Suburbs is seeking an experienced Senior Contracts & Commercial Specialist to join a newly established Commercial function. This hands-on, delivery-focused role is designed to support key commercial priorities, drive financial and service value, and mentor the broader team to uplift capability.
Reporting to the Manager Commercial, you will operate autonomously to manage multi-category spend and lead end-to-end strategic procurement activities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Contract Lifecycle: Lead strategic sourcing, tender development, execution, and contract governance.
Commercial Negotiation: Drive complex negotiations with suppliers to achieve optimal cost, quality, and service outcomes.
Pipeline & Value Creation: Manage the contract pipeline and renewal strategy while identifying cost-saving and value-improvement opportunities.
Supplier Performance: Establish KPIs, performance frameworks, and risk management compliance.
Capability Uplift: Provide mentorship and share best-practice approaches with a developing commercial team.
Skills & Experience Required
Proven track record in strategic sourcing and procurement across multi-category spend (e.g., Civils/Construction, MRO, Site Services, Goods and Services).
Advanced negotiation skills and strong commercial/financial acumen.
Deep understanding of risk, governance, and probity frameworks.
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
Background in Local/State Government, Corporate/Private sectors, or Not-for-Profit is highly regarded.
Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Law, Procurement, or a related field (desirable).
Onboarding Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to undergo standard background checks upon selection, including a National Criminal History Check, a standard working with children screening, and a valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
