Underground Mining Engineer
Randstad is seeking a highly capable and motivated Underground Mining Engineer to join our mining client’s Technical Services team.
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, The Underground Mining Engineer and is responsible for designing, planning and executing technical mining activities. This role is crucial for ensuring production outcomes meet targets and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design of drilling, blasting and production plans
- Liaising with all stakeholders to ensure drill and blast designs meet site requirements
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure drill and blast activities are achieved in a safe and efficient manner
- Review of drilling, blasting and production plans as required
- Undertake QA/QC monitoring for production activities
- Undertaking stope reconciliations/abandonments on completion
- Management and monitoring of the blasting system
- Review and approval of survey memo’s
- Monitor and maintain quality data with respect to underground performance
- Undertaking any projects necessary to improve processes and practices
- Design of mine development plans as required
- Assisting other mining engineering functions as required
- Assist with incident investigations and implement actions leading to continuous improvement of the site’s safety performance
- Conduct task observations and critical control verifications as required
- Hazard identification, rectification and reporting inline with site requirements
Essential Skills & Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience working in an underground, hard rock, metalliferous mine
- Proven experience in drill and blast design in sub-level open stoping
- Experience in short term scheduling preferred but not essential
- Motivated and self-directed
- Ability to work in high pressure and dynamic environments
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships
- Actively promote safe production
- Ability to work independently in office and underground
- MS Office and Deswik suite software experience
- Tertiary qualifications in mining or civil engineering
- SA Driver’s Licence or equivalent
- Current national police check or ability to obtain
