About your next role
Working alongside the Kitchen Manager, you will be essential in overseeing the smooth operations of the Galiwinku Miyalk Kitchen. Your leadership will directly empower the community by providing vital employment and training opportunities while delivering nutritious, high-quality meals.
- Oversee daily café and kitchen operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and well-stocked environment.
- Mentor and train community employees and participants in culinary skills and food preparation.
- Manage catering contracts, including NDIS and Bukmak trades, and respond to stakeholder feedback.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the procurement of supplies through approved stock systems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop new menu items and improve existing recipes.
- Maintain accurate reporting for staff attendance and RAES compliance.
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, health standards, and NT Government sanitation regulations.
What you will need to bring
To be successful in this role, you should have a thorough understanding of relevant food regulations and the ability to link daily kitchen activities to ALPA’s core values and mission. We look for leaders with highly effective interpersonal skills who can adapt their communication to suit various education levels and language abilities within a remote environment.
- Proven experience in food preparation, handling, and maintaining high hygiene standards.
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen environment is highly regarded.
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and inventory management.
- Qualifications in hospitality, social, or community services will be viewed favourably.
- Prior experience working with Aboriginal people in remote Northern Territory settings is a significant advantage.
- Flexibility to work shifts that may include split shifts, rostered hours, or overtime.
Mandatory Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Northern Territory driving license.
- Ability to travel to remote communities via vehicle (including unsealed roads) and small light aircraft.
- Must meet aviation safety requirements regarding weight (under 140kg) for light aircraft travel.
