SENIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER – METROLOGY (1-MONTH CONTRACT)
Location: Melbourne CBD (City Campus, Full-Time On Site)
Salary: (HEW 7) + on costs
Contract Length: Immediate start – 1 month (covering staff on LSL)
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a leading Melbourne CBD based University we are working with to find a highly skilled Senior Technical Officer for a short-term, full-time contract within their STEM College Technical Services unit.
You will be responsible for the technical operations and support for research and industry activities in the designated metrology labs, providing high-level expertise and training to researchers and users.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily lab operations, including equipment maintenance, purchasing, and infrastructure.1
- Maintain all OHS compliance and safety standards, including relevant safety documentation (SOPs, RAs, chemical registers, etc.).1
- Provide expert technical advice and support to researchers on experimental design, data acquisition, and data analysis.1
- Establish and maintain an equipment training framework, including workshops for advanced instrumentation.1
- Contribute to technical papers and foster external industry and government partnerships.1
Essential Skills and Experience
- Qualifications: Tertiary degree (or higher) in Engineering or Science and a minimum of 5 years of subsequent relevant lab experience. A valid Working with Children Check is mandatory.1
- Technical Proficiency: Proven ability in at least two of the following instruments: Raman Spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Helium Ion Microscopes, Laser Doppler Vibrometer, or Optical Microscopes.1
- Data Analysis: Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret AFM and Raman spectroscopy data for high-quality journal publications.1
- Safety & Handling: Current understanding of OHS legislation and experience managing compliant lab operations, including safe handling of LN2 (Liquid Nitrogen) and hazardous chemicals (storage/disposal).1
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating resources within a research setting.1
Desirable: Experience with Cryo-biology, soft matter, or x-ray scattering.
