A leading Melbourne-based university client is seeking a Technical Officer – Environmental Chemistry to support laboratory and field-based teaching, research and industry activities.
About the Role
Reporting to the Technical Coordinator, you will provide hands-on technical support across Environmental Chemistry laboratories and off-campus field sites. The role involves environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water), laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, and supporting staff and students with training and advice.
Key Responsibilities
... - Maintain day-to-day laboratory operations (equipment, calibration, consumables, chemical and waste management)
- Provide laboratory and field technical support and sampling expertise
- Train and support staff and students in equipment and techniques
- Maintain SOPs, risk assessments, chemical registers and compliance documentation
- Ensure OHS standards and safe work practices are upheld
- Prepare equipment and materials for practical classes and research activities
Requirements
- Experience with environmental sampling equipment and techniques
- Strong laboratory operations and maintenance background
- Knowledge of OHS processes and laboratory compliance standards
- Ability to work full-time on site
