A leading university is seeking a skilled Technical Officer – Heavy Structures to support teaching, research, and industry projects within a busy Civil & Infrastructure Laboratory. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, operating large-scale testing equipment, and contributing to a safe, high-performing laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical support for structural testing, material characterisation, and experimental setups
- Operate and maintain hydraulic testing systems, load frames, actuators, and data acquisition equipment
- Assist academic staff and research students with test design, sample preparation, instrumentation, and data collection
- Perform calibration, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
- Develop and update SOPs, risk assessments, and safety documentation
- Maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient laboratory environment
- Support continuous improvement and technical innovation within the Civil & Infrastructure discipline
About You
- Experience in structural or materials testing
- Strong practical understanding of civil/structural engineering laboratory equipment
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to safe work practices and continuous improvement
- Relevant qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field (minimum Diploma)
