Join a highly respected independent Federal regulator dedicated to the safety and environmental management of Australia’s offshore energy and renewable sectors.
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer to join the Legal and Governance Division. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for FOI enquiries, managing the end-to-end preparation and delivery of responses to ensure the agency meets its statutory and legal obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth).
Assess and process complex and sensitive FOI requests, ensuring all statutory timelines are met.
Draft formal FOI decisions and act as the authorised officer for releases, applying relevant legislation and policy.
Liaise with internal business units and external stakeholders to negotiate the release of documents and provide expert advice on FOI matters.
Manage compliance and reporting requirements for the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Support decision-makers regarding internal reviews and manage external legal providers for OAIC reviews.
Assist in developing and delivering FOI training materials to staff across the organisation.
Provide input on legislative reviews and help update internal policies and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
Proven experience processing FOI requests and drafting formal decisions within a government context.
A strong understanding of administrative law and the ability to interpret complex Acts and regulations.
High-level research and conceptual skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information with tact and professional judgement.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or significant equivalent experience in a similar government or regulatory environment.
This position is open to Australian Citizens only.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Commonwealth Security Clearance.
Must pass a pre-employment medical assessment.
Must undergo a National Police Clearance and declare any potential conflicts of interest.
