A leading, family-owned, proudly Australian transport and logistics provider specialising in palletised freight and container transport.
About the Role:
This is a strategic General Manager position, ideal for a highly motivated and results-oriented transport professional who thrives in a high-volume, commercial environment. The GM will oversee all aspects of the business operations in Sydney and New South Wales and be responsible for driving strategic growth, ensuring operational excellence, managing key client relationships, and achieving P&L targets.
Your duties will include:
- Develop and execute the company's regional business strategy, ensuring alignment with national objectives, to drive sustainable growth and market share in the NSW transport sector.
- Full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility for the NSW business unit, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and managing capital expenditure.
- Analyse operational and financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and reporting key metrics to the Executive Leadership Team.
- Manage all functional areas, including Transport Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Safety & Compliance, and Administration.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery standards
- Oversee the effective deployment and utilisation of core technology, including Transport Management Systems (TMS), telematics, and route optimisation software.
- Ensure absolute adherence to all Australian and NSW transport legislation, including strict compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations.
- Champion a strong safety culture, managing all Work Health & Safety (WHS) protocols and driving incident reduction targets across the business.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the senior management team (Operations Manager, Fleet Manager, Sales Manager). Oversee talent acquisition, retention, and performance management for the entire NSW team.
- Collaborate with the sales team to identify and secure new business opportunities within the NSW market, supporting tender responses and negotiating major contracts.
The Successful Applicant will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive management experience in the Transport, Logistics, or Supply Chain industry, with at least 3 years in a General Manager or similar senior leadership role with P&L accountability.
- Exceptional commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and experience managing significant budgets.
