The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA) is the largest independent not-for-profit Aboriginal-owned organization dedicated to the guiding principle of "Unity Through Enterprise." ALPA is a leader in creating sustainable economic opportunities and long-term employment pathways for Indigenous communities across the region.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager - Enterprise is a pivotal executive position responsible for leading the Enterprise Division. You will provide strategic direction and operational oversight for a diverse portfolio.
As a member of the Executive and Corporate Management Teams, you will champion a culture of accountability and productivity, ensuring that every business unit achieves its revenue, cost, and surplus targets while staying true to ALPA’s core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all business operations to ensure commercial viability and the achievement of financial targets.
- Collaborate with internal and external leaders to identify, capture, and deliver new business opportunities.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with Boards, regulatory authorities, government agencies, and suppliers.
- Implement proactive safety, repairs, and maintenance protocols across all assets.
- Directly manage key leadership team members and align the workforce with strategic business objectives.
- Participate as a board member for ALPA and its community-based subsidiaries.
Requirements for Success
We are looking for an experienced executive who is capable of balancing the social needs and economic goals of the community.
- 15 years of diverse business leadership experience with transferable skills in commercial environments.
- Experience in budgeting, financial modelling, risk analysis, and business development due diligence.
- Demonstrated experience in project development, management, and delivery.
- High-level negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to adjust communication for diverse audiences.
- Proven experience reporting to Boards and managing relationships with Government Agencies.
- Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in Business or related fields; membership with the AICD; and a deep interest in Indigenous economic development.
Note: This role involves regular travel to remote communities via vehicle, small plane, or barge.
