Randstad is proud to partner with a prominent State Government organization dedicated to public health and safety. We are seeking dedicated Fly In, Fly Out - Regulatory Control Officers to join a high-impact enforcement team within the Centre for Regulation and Enforcement (CRE).
Position Overview
- Pay Rate: $55 per hour + Super
- Location: Based in St Leonards, with extensive state-wide travel.
- Contract Length: 12-month temporary assignment, with possibility of going permanent
The Role
The FIFO team is responsible for state-wide reactive enforcement of tobacco and e-cigarette legislation.
- State-Wide Mobility: This is a highly mobile role; you must be flexible and comfortable being away from home 2–3 nights per week.
- Regional Support: You will fly or drive into various regions to support local teams in areas such as Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, and Tweed Heads.
- Covert Operations: You will conduct "undercover buys" of illegal vapes or illicit tobacco, specifically in regional areas where local officers are already known to retailers.
- Overt Inspections: Entering premises in teams (at times in conjunction with Police) to identify and seize illegal products.
- Enforcement & Evidence: Issuing penalty notices, managing store closures (up to 90 days), and maintaining a strict chain of evidence for prosecution briefs.
- Logistics: All travel and accommodation are arranged via FCM Travel. Meal expenses are handled via corporate cards with reimbursement of "actuals".
Key Selection Criteria
- Experience: A background in compliance, investigation, or local/federal government (e.g., Fair Trading, Council, or Police).
- Conflict De-escalation: Proven ability to manage difficult interactions and remain calm under pressure when dealing with uncooperative individuals.
- Technical Skills: Strong attention to detail, proficiency in contemporaneous note-taking, and computer literacy.
- Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while maintaining the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Requirements: A current NSW Driver’s License is essential. A mandatory National Police Check will be conducted.
- Qualifications: A Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent is highly desirable.
Training & Culture
Extensive training is provided on the Public Health (Tobacco) Act, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act, risk assessments, and situational awareness.
