Quality Control Assistant (Grain & Seed) – Horsham
Location: Horsham, Victoria
Rate: $35.90 per hour + Super
Hours: 15 – 35 hours per week (Flexible/Seasonal)
The Role
This position is a unique blend of manual quality inspection and warehouse operations. You will be responsible for identifying defects, removing contaminants, and ensuring that every sample processed is pure and accurately documented.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Inspection: Manually and mechanically sorting grain to identify cracked seeds, discoloration, or disease.
- Contaminant Removal: Detecting and removing "foreign matter," including stones, weed seeds, and insects.
- Sample Preparation: Bagging, labeling, and organizing samples for laboratory testing and research.
- Physical Stock Movement: Moving bags of grain (up to 15kg) and palletizing stock to keep the facility running smoothly.
- Data Entry: Keeping basic, accurate records of findings (e.g., weed levels or batch quality).
- Biosecurity & Hygiene: Maintaining a sterile environment by cleaning equipment and sorting trays between batches to prevent cross-contamination.

- Exceptional Focus: The ability to maintain high concentration while looking at thousands of small grains over a long shift.
- Physical Endurance: You are comfortable being on your feet all day, performing repetitive movements, and lifting 12kg–15kg regularly.
- Reliability: You understand that the sorting line depends on every team member; punctuality is non-negotiable.
- Communication: You work well in a small team and can alert supervisors quickly if quality issues arise.
Working Environment
- Safety First: You will be provided with and required to wear PPE, including masks, gloves, and hi-vis gear.
- Environment Note: The facility is a working site. The environment is dusty; if you suffer from severe asthma or hay fever, please consider this daily exposure.
