The Role:
This key leadership role is responsible for leading and coordinating all environmental management, sustainability, and climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and reviewing environmental programs, policies, and action plans.
Salary Range: $105,000 - $118,000 + Superannuation
Reports to: Manager Waste and Environment Supervises: Conservation Officer
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of conservation and sustainability strategies, policies, and projects.
- Oversee the delivery of environmental programs, including climate mitigation and resilience, sustainability, and conservation.
- Provide direction, mentoring, and support to the Environment team to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and foster a positive culture.
- Drive community engagement and education initiatives to foster environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices.
- Proactively identify and pursue grant funding opportunities, and manage grant applications, delivery, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities and legislative requirements.
- Facilitate the provision of expert advice to management, staff, and Council on environmental and sustainability matters.
About You:
To be successful, you will need the following mandatory qualifications and experience:
- A Tertiary Degree in Sustainability, Climate Change, Environmental Science, or a related field with relevant experience, or a lesser formal qualification with extensive relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in an environment/sustainability leadership role within a multi-functional environment.
- Knowledge and experience in natural resource management issues, including biodiversity management, climate change adaptation, and mitigation.
- Well-developed financial management skills, including experience in writing grant applications, grant delivery, budget development, and management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams and stakeholders.
- A valid driver's licence, National Police Check, and Victorian Working with Children Check.
Desirable Experience Includes:
- Local Government experience and knowledge of current issues in Victorian Local Government.
- Experience in policy development and project management.
