Are you a technical security and risk expert who wants to make an impact on a national scale by reviewing and safeguarding security controls, registers, frameworks and policy?
I am currently partnering with a prominent Federal Government client in the disability sector with an exciting and specialised role of EL1 Technical Security Risk Advisor. This is a critical role within the Security Risk, Assurance and Governance team, focused on safeguarding a national footprint of metropolitan, regional, and corporate sites.
About the Opportunity
As the EL1 Technical Security Risk Advisor, you will lead the planning and delivery of Security Risk Assessments (SRAs), site audits, and physical security assessments across Australia. You will act as an authoritative voice on technical security, ensuring that physical security controls—ranging from CCTV and access control to duress systems—are effective, compliant, and balanced with accessibility needs.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Risk Assessment & Management: Identify threats and vulnerabilities while providing expert recommendations aligned with ISO 31000 and the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
- National Oversight: Establish and maintain a national site risk register, ensuring visibility of treatment owners and the timely escalation of high-risk issues
- Technical Advisory: Provide high-level advice on intrusion detection, electronic key management, and associated network infrastructure dependencies
- Assurance & Compliance: Create a national testing regime and prepare formal reports confirming that installations comply with technical guidance and certification pathways
- Policy Development: Review and uplift security policies and procedures to reflect emerging threats and contemporary service delivery needs
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build effective partnerships with internal teams like ICT and Property, while overseeing external consultants and technical contractors
Ideally you will possess:
- Proven Expertise: Demonstrated experience in physical, technical, or protective security roles within government or regulated industries.
- Framework Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of the PSPF and experience conducting risk assessments in alignment with government security frameworks.
- Technical Proficiency: A deep understanding of electronic security technology systems and their integration considerations.
- Communication Skills: The ability to prepare high-quality assurance reports and provide authoritative advice to stakeholders at all levels.
- Leadership: Ability to lead complex work programs and manage competing priorities with limited supervision.
