About the role: EL1 Assistant Director – Financial Reporting
Location: Canberra with hybrid working arrangements

Engagement Type: Labour hire
Contract Length: 12 months with possibility of an extension (further 6 months)
Pay: $80 - $110 per hour + super
Hours: Full-time (38.0 hours per week)
Overview of the role:
The Assistant Director - Financial Reporting will provide financial accounting services and advice on all aspects of financial statements, taxation, asset management, accounting policies, procedures, accounting standards, budgets, investment and treasury management, external financial reporting and month-end processes.
The role provides technical accounting advice and support to Agency’s employees on financial policy, processes, systems and issues while promoting and managing complex relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders and service providers. The role is responsible for researching, analysing, reviewing and evaluating accounting issues, implementing policies, procedures and processes, while presenting a passion for initiating continuous improvement and driving change.
The Assistant Director - Financial Reporting will have high level leadership capabilities and superior management skills that demonstrate an ability to achieve organisational objectives through successful planning. They will also possess a high level of accounting skills, knowledge and experience in addition to participating, contributing and collaborating within teams. They will manage, mentor and evaluate team and individual performance and provide regular feedback to team members.
Key Responsibilities
... - Manage financial accounting responsibilities including internal and external reporting, financial statements and fixed assets.
- Manage investment and treasury functions
- Manage taxation responsibilities including GST and Fringe Benefits Tax.
- Provide expert technical accounting advice on accounting standards, policy, legislation, and systems and processes related to the above.
- Research and analyse a range of complex accounting issues and develop, review, evaluate and implement policies, procedures and processes
- Provide input and assistance for monthly Executive Management Financial reports and variance analysis for the Executive.
- Prepare working papers and information relating to non-financial assets for budget purpose.
- Provide input into strategic plans and undertake operational business planning.
- Promote and manage relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders and service providers.
- Provide proactive leadership and manage employees in day-to-day activities financial accounting requirements including developing, coaching and mentoring employees and building commitment to shared goals.
- Be a lead facilitator for issues regarding financial policy, processes, financial statements, accounting standards, investment management and systems
- The role has responsibility for undertaking research and financial analysis to support the objectives of Comcare and the Business Groups.
- The role provides support to the CFO in undertaking projects in relation to technical accounting and taxation issues.

Key Capabilities:
- Critical thinking and analytical skills related to financial management, including research, analysis and report writing.
- Stakeholder management and engagement skills
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of the Australian Government Financial Framework and taxation matters.
- . Demonstrated experience in leading financial statements and interim and year-end audit processes, taxation, treasury management and financial operations.
- Demonstrated experience in investment and treasury management.
- High level financial modelling skills including creating and maintaining financial reports from Financial Management Information Systems, particularly XLOne.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field e.g., commerce, accounting, statistics, business informatics etc.
- CPA and/or CA.
- Baseline
