We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead one of Victoria's largest and most respected electrical design teams while driving the strategic expansion of our Major Projects Group. Key Responsibilities
As the Design Manager, you will be accountable for the long-term capability, technical excellence, and commercial performance of the Design Business Unit.
People & Culture: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of electrical designers and engineers and drive resource planning, capacity allocation, and professional development.
Project & Technical Delivery: Oversee the delivery of design services to ensure they consistently exceed quality, safety, and client expectations while maintaining compliance with Australian Standards (such as AS/NZS 3000).
Strategic Growth: Lead the expansion of our Major Projects capability across large customer connections, renewable energy, transmission, and data centres.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key technical representative to cultivate deep relationships with developers, Distribution Businesses, transmission companies, AEMO, and VicGrid.
Commercial Performance: Manage team productivity, utilisation, budgeting, and forecasting to achieve strong financial and operational outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
Proven Leadership: Demonstrated experience managing, resource-planning, and leading engineering or design teams.
Professional Credentials: Engineers Australia membership and RPEV registration (or a transferable equivalent).
Project & Commercial Acumen: Experience managing multiple concurrent projects, navigating competing priorities, and overseeing project delivery budgets.
Communication Skills: Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
Highly Desired Experience
We are looking for candidates who can bring broad electrical infrastructure experience to the table. Exposure to some/ several of the following is highly regarded:
Large Customer Connections: Particularly data centres and major industrial/commercial infrastructure.
Renewable Energy: Utility-scale solar/wind and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Network Infrastructure: High Voltage distribution, transmission infrastructure, and overhead/underground design.
Urban & Infrastructure Development: Utility Residential Developments (URD) or major intersection/roadway lighting projects.
Regulatory Processes: Strong working knowledge of network negotiations, grid connection studies, and Victorian utility approvals.
