Key ResponsibilitiesIn these roles, you will support or lead the delivery of strategic communication plans. Typical duties include:
Content Creation: Researching, writing, and editing high-quality content for diverse channels, including media releases, newsletters, speeches, websites, and social media.
Internal & External Communications: Developing messages that keep internal staff informed while keeping the broader WA public engaged and updated on key initiatives.
Stakeholder & Media Relations: Responding to media enquiries, drafting ministerial responses, and collaborating with internal subject matter experts to ensure messaging alignment.
Campaign & Event Support: Assisting with the rollout of public awareness campaigns, community consultation workshops, and official government launches.
Digital Communication: Managing and updating government web pages (using CMS platforms) and scheduling engaging content across official social media channels.
To be successful in securing a State Government contract, you will need:
Exceptional Writing Skills: The ability to write clearly and adapt your tone for different audiences, adhering strictly to government style guides and accessibility standards.
Public Sector Awareness: Prior experience in government communications, or a strong understanding of how to navigate politically sensitive environments, is highly regarded.
Project Management Mindset: The organisational skills to manage multiple deadlines, coordinate approvals through complex hierarchies, and remain calm under pressure.
Technical Proficiency: Experience with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal), email marketing tools (e.g., Campaign Monitor, Mailchimp), and social media management tools.
