Direct Reports: 4-7 Engineers
The Opportunity: Lead, Empower, and Innovate
Our client, a major player in the Australian financial services sector, is seeking a dynamic and adaptable Cloud Platform Team Leader to lead their high-performing Cloud Platform Team within the Cloud & Technical Infrastructure department. This is a critical leadership role for an individual who thrives in ambiguity, champions autonomy, and is passionate about enabling development teams to deliver exceptional value.
You’ll be joining a technology division that values 'High Performance with High Integrity'—a culture where collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning are paramount. As the leader of the Cloud Platform team, your primary purpose is to shape and deliver scalable, secure, and efficient cloud solutions that safeguard a brighter future for the organisation.
What You'll Be Doing: Key Responsibilities
As the Team Leader, you won't just manage; you'll lead from the front, fostering a supportive environment built on trust and mutual accountability. Your core focus will be to accelerate delivery, uplift capability, and drive security across the organisation's cloud estate.
People Leadership & Coaching: Cultivate a high-performing and inclusive team culture, providing guidance and support to your 4-7 engineers. You'll coach senior engineers and tech leads to evolve ways of working and develop technical leadership.
Strategic Cloud Enablement: Partner closely with technical leads and business units to provide strategic direction on cloud adoption, migration, and modernisation, aligning technical solutions with broader organisational goals.
Operational Excellence: Drive the adoption of modern engineering practices—including Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD—to promote self-service capabilities. You'll proactively remove blockers, support backlog prioritisation, and ensure clarity in execution.
Security & Governance: Drive a strong security and risk reduction mindset. You’ll be responsible for implementing effective governance policies, controls, and accountability mechanisms directly into the architecture and operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (APRA and data privacy).
Cost Optimisation: Own the cloud cost management function, including ongoing analysis and reporting, identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve the overall value delivered by the platform.
Agile Delivery: Embed established Agile/SCRUM practices, ensuring sprint ceremonies are purposeful and that evolving priorities are effectively managed through collaboration with stakeholders.
What You'll Bring: Skills & Experience
We're looking for a proven leader with a strong technical foundation and the ability to navigate complex, evolving requirements.
Essential Skills and Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience or at least 2 years in a Team Leader role within a similar enterprise environment.
Proven experience leading and supervising technical teams, with a track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical issues and their business impact to diverse audiences (from engineers to senior stakeholders).
Demonstrated capability in creating, documenting, and continuously improving operational policies, processes, and procedures.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, maintaining a customer-focused approach and composure under pressure.
Desirable Qualifications:
Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications related to core infrastructure.
Relevant Cloud (AWS, GCP) or Security Certifications.
Experience working within Agile project management frameworks.
Why Apply? The Rewards of the Role
This is more than just a leadership position; it's an opportunity to influence the technology direction of a significant financial services organisation.
Autonomy & Empowerment: Lead a team where engineers are empowered to make decisions and drive innovation, supported by clear guardrails and governance.
Professional Growth: Gain valuable experience in risk and compliance within a regulated environment, working directly with the Head of Cloud Services and Development Leadership.
Impact: Your work will directly enable development teams to extend and enhance their ability to support the business, driving real-world impact across the organisation.
