We are looking for a data-driven Cloud FinOps Analyst to join a high-priority Government project. This role is essential for driving financial accountability and optimising multi-cloud expenditure across AWS and Azure environments. You will work at the intersection of finance, engineering, and operations to ensure every dollar spent in the cloud delivers maximum value.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Security Clearance
To be considered, you MUST hold a current AGSVA Baseline, NV1, or NV2 security clearance. Applicants without an active Australian Government clearance cannot be progressed due to the nature of the project's data and compliance standards.
The Role
As a FinOps Specialist, you will move beyond simple cost-tracking to build a culture of financial transparency. You will be responsible for forecasting, right-sizing, and implementing governance frameworks that align cloud usage with strict budgetary objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Governance & Analysis: Conduct deep-dive reviews of cloud usage and expenditure to identify waste and ensure total alignment with project budgets.
- Forecasting & Budgeting: Predict future cloud spend based on historical trends and upcoming project milestones, providing stakeholders with actionable budgetary roadmaps.
- Resource Optimisation: Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, such as instance right-sizing, managing Reserved Instances (RIs), and implementing Savings Plans or Spot Instances.
- Automation & Data Engineering: Use scripting and coding to retrieve, manipulate, and collate platform data. You will automate logic/queries and deploy tagging or configuration changes via CI/CD pipelines.
- Reporting & Dashboards: Develop clear, high-impact financial reports and dashboards that translate complex cloud data into insights for executive decision-makers.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, operations, and finance teams to implement chargeback/showback models and robust cost-allocation frameworks.
Your Technical Profile
We are seeking an analyst with 3–10 years of experience specifically managing cloud financials in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
Technical Essentials:
- Cloud Cost Tooling: High proficiency in AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, Budgets, and Usage Reports.
- Platform Depth: Extensive experience with services including S3, CloudWatch, DynamoDB, Glue, Lambda, Kinesis, and Trusted Advisor.
- FinOps Frameworks: Proven expertise in tagging frameworks, cost allocation, and financial governance within the Cloud Adoption Framework.
- Data & Scripting: Proficiency in scripting (Python/Bash) to automate cost-monitoring logic and interact with cloud APIs.
- Operational Knowledge: Solid understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Change, and Problem Management).
Qualifications & Certifications:
- Highly Regarded: AWS or Azure Solutions Architect Associate/Professional certification.
- Sector Experience: Prior experience in government or highly regulated environments is a significant advantage.
- FinOps Certification: Familiarity with official FinOps Foundation best practices is a plus.
