The Role
The Business Architect reports to the Enterprise Architect within the Chief Information and Technology Office (CITO) and provides leadership in developing and governing the organisation’s business architecture. The role works under limited direction and partners with teams across CITO, business areas and ICT to shape transformation initiatives, improve service delivery and support investment decisions. The role also acts as a key business relationship point within ICT, ensuring business needs are clearly understood and translated into structured architecture artefacts.
Key deliverables and artefacts
- Establish and maintain an architecture tool-based knowledge base to support reporting, analysis and decision-making.
- Produce and maintain the enterprise business capability model, application portfolio mapped to business capabilities, and capability to application and technology mappings.
- Develop future state process designs, value stream maps and business architecture roadmaps. Provide investment alignment assessments and architecture advice to support strategic planning and delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities
Translate organisational and ICT strategies into clear, structured business architecture artefacts that support decision-making and delivery. Develop and maintain the enterprise business capability model and define business architecture principles that reflect strategic priorities.
- Business capability management
Establish and govern a capability-based planning approach across the organisation. Assess capability maturity to identify strengths, gaps and uplift opportunities, and support capability improvement initiatives in partnership with business areas.
- Process analysis, technology opportunities and innovation
Analyse end-to-end business processes to identify gaps, pain points and improvement opportunities. Assess how new technology, automation and digital solutions can improve service delivery, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Portfolio and investment support
Provide business architecture input to projects, business cases and architectural design activities. Assess initiatives for alignment to the target architecture and strategic direction.
Build and maintain productive relationships with ICT stakeholders, business leaders and delivery partners. Facilitate workshops to define capabilities, value streams and operating model impacts.
Contribute to Architecture Review Board processes and architecture assurance activities. Develop and maintain business architecture standards and principles.
