We are seeking a senior AWS Platform Engineer to join a major digital transformation project within the Australian Public Sector. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing secure, high performance cloud infrastructure while driving operational excellence through automation.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Security Clearance
To be eligible for this role, you MUST hold a current AGSVA Baseline, NV1, or NV2 security clearance. Applications without an active Australian Government clearance will not be processed.
Key Responsibilities
As a lead technical resource, you will manage the lifecycle of a complex cloud ecosystem, ensuring it remains scalable, cost-effective, and compliant with government standards.
- Cloud Architecture & Governance: Design and maintain AWS environments with a focus on high availability. This includes executing AWS landing zone uplifts, managing SCP sets, and defining baseline configurations.
- Automation & IaC: Build and refine automated infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation. You will be responsible for streamlining deployments via robust CI/CD pipelines.
- Security & Compliance: Implement rigorous AWS security best practices, including IAM role management, vulnerability monitoring, and regulatory alignment.
- Optimisation & Support: Monitor system stability and resource utilisation to improve reliability and cost-efficiency. Provide expert-level troubleshooting across compute, networking, and OS layers.
- Collaboration: Work alongside DevOps and software engineering teams to ensure the platform supports application requirements and modern deployment workflows.
Required Skills and Expertise
We are looking for a specialist with 5–10+ years of hands on experience in AWS heavy environments.
- Core AWS Services: Expert knowledge of EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, VPC, Route 53, ELB, CloudWatch, and Auto Scaling.
- Platform Tools: Specific experience with AWS Control Tower, Service Control Policies (SCPs), and VPC architecture.
- DevOps & Automation: Proficiency in Terraform (essential) and containerisation tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Scripting: Strong ability to automate tasks using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Process Knowledge: A solid understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Change, and Problem Management).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or SysOps Administrator (Highly Desirable).
- Industry Experience: Prior experience working within government or highly regulated environments is a significant advantage.
