Randstad Digital are currently working with a large, utilities organistion in Queensland to find a highly skilled Test Automation Engineer with a passion for operational technology. This role is an initial 12-month contract, and is integral to delivering one of the largest programs in the organisation. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive library of automated test scripts using Micro Focus Unified Functional Testing (UFT). You'll work on a wide range of testing activities, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), functional, regression, and integration testing, across both SCADA and EMS platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive library of automated test scripts using Micro Focus UFT.
- Build and maintain custom software tools using Go (Golang) for backend and HTML for frontend to support automated testing workflows.
- Analyse test execution results, identify defects, and collaborate with development teams to ensure timely resolution.
- Evaluate and develop strategies to address the capabilities and limitations of UFT, and assess alternative solutions where appropriate.
- Integrate UFT with JIRA Xray to ensure full test case traceability and streamlined defect tracking.
- Provide training and mentorship to other test engineers on UFT usage and best practices.
- Maintain detailed documentation of test cases, scripts, and execution results to support auditability and quality assurance.
Necessary Skills:
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in test automation, with a strong focus on UFT for Windows-based applications in an operational technology environment.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing robust automation frameworks using UFT or similar tools.
- Extensive experience in full-stack software development, with expertise in Go, C++, Java, Rust, or Python for backend and HTML for frontend.
- Sound understanding of SCADA and Energy Management Systems, including protocols and operational workflows.
- Experience with test management tools like ALM, JIRA, and Xray.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Energy Management Systems (OSI Monarch), smart grid technologies, or energy trading platforms.
- Familiarity with energy sector communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3, or Modbus.
