Do you ever feel like your body is keeping a tally of every engine pull and double-shift you’ve done?
Do you have the "gift of the gab" and the technical backbone to tell a workshop when their quote doesn't add up?
Would 5 weeks of annual leave and a professional CBD office (with a hybrid WFH balance) change your lifestyle?
If you are thinking ‘YES!’ to any of these questions, then keep reading. Our Client, an Aussie powerhouse in the commercial vehicle leasing sector, is looking for a dedicated Diesel Mechanic/Fleet Controller to join their professional team in Melbourne.
The Role:
This isn’t just an office job; it’s a career evolution for a seasoned Tradie. We are representing a powerhouse, ASX-listed leader in Fleet Management looking for a Trade-Qualified Heavy Diesel expert to join their high-performing Commercial team.
You’ll be the technical authority for one of Australia's largest commercial fleets. When a workshop sends a quote, you’re the one who verifies if the hours are right and the parts are necessary. You’ll use your skin in the game to push back professionally, negotiate costs, and ensure the fleet stays moving without being taken for a ride.
Why you will want to do it:
- The Package: Up to $117k (inc. Super) + an achievable 8.3% monthly bonus (generally starts after 3 months).
- Work-Life Balance: 4 days in a stunning Melbourne CBD office / 1 day WFH.
- Extra Time Off: 5 weeks of annual leave (not the standard 4) plus 2 paid "Make a Difference" days a year, where you can give back to your local community.
- The Commute: Prime CBD location—forget paying $3 a litre to suffer through traffic and the struggle for parking. Enjoy easy train or tram access right to the door.
- Top-Tier Culture: Voted an "Employer of Choice" with a massive 82% engagement score. This is an inclusive, experienced team that actually respects your trade background.
- The Extras: Free team lunches every week and optional Saturday shifts at penalty rates for those who want to boost their take-home pay.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Technical Authorisation: Reviewing and approving repair orders for heavy commercial vehicles, heavy plant equipment, etc.
- Negotiation: Calling out the "fluff" in quotes and ensuring fair pricing based on your real-world experience.
- Stakeholder Management: Dealing directly with other mechanics, dealers, and clients. You need to be able to "talk shop" while maintaining professional corporate standards.
- Solution Finding: Offering on-the-fly advice to keep vehicles compliant and safe.
What we need from you:
To be successful in this role, you must hold one of the following qualifications:
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Trailer Technology
Additionally, you will have:
- The Experience: Years spent on the tools so you know exactly how long a job should take.
- The Personality: A confident communication style—you aren't afraid to hold your own in a conversation and can negotiate with authority.
- The Drive: A desire to move into a fast-paced corporate environment where your technical knowledge is highly valued.
About the Business:
You’ll be joining a long-established, national firm that specializes in fleet management and employee services. They value the "old school" expertise of experienced mechanics but offer a "new school" corporate environment that respects your time, your health, and your career longevity.
