Overview of Role
The Department is seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Senior Financial Accountant / Finance Manager to undertake a critical review and analysis of the financial health and reporting of approximately 60 diverse governmental and affiliated organisations. This high-level, investigative role requires a professional with deep expertise in financial statements analysis, exceptional attention to detail, and proven experience in the government sector. The successful candidate will go beyond surface-level reporting to conduct financial due diligence, identify underlying reasons for year-over-year variances, and provide high-level, actionable financial advice to senior management. Please note that government expeirence is highly desirable for this role.

-Expert Financial Acumen and Analysis: Demonstrated extensive experience in conducting complex and investigative financial statement analysis, including YOY comparisons and variance reporting, specifically requiring the ability to look beyond the numbers to the business drivers.
-Proven track record working as a Senior Accountant or Finance Manager within the Australian government or public sector environment, with a thorough understanding of relevant reporting frameworks and accountability requirements.
-Communication and Stakeholder Management: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, precise, and persuasive high-level reports and briefings for senior executives and non-finance audiences.
-Investigative Mindset: A proactive, inquisitive, and methodical approach to financial review, with a proven ability to perform deep-dive investigations and challenge reported data to uncover the true financial picture.
Qualifications and Experience
Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA or CA) is highly desirable/essential.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior financial accounting or finance management role, ideally within a large, complex organisation or the public sector.
Advanced proficiency in financial modelling, Excel, and various financial reporting systems.
