About the role
Randstad is working with a large government department who are seeking multiple A04 Finance officers for an initial 6 month contract based in Brisbane CBD.
The AO4 Finance Officer is responsible for performing a range of core financial tasks, with a primary focus on maintaining the integrity of the department's cash flow records and executing timely and accurate reconciliations. The role provides essential support to the finance team, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, financial standards, and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
Cashflow Management and Banking
... - Execute daily banking processes, including processing receipts, preparing deposits, and managing petty cash.
- Monitor and track the department's daily and weekly cash flow positions, identifying and escalating any significant variances or issues.
- Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring adherence to payment terms and internal controls.
- Assist in the preparation of short-term cash flow forecasts to support effective working capital management.
Reconciliations and Financial Integrity
- Perform complex and high-volume bank reconciliations for multiple accounts on a daily and monthly basis.
- Complete timely and accurate General Ledger (GL) account reconciliations, including balance sheet accounts, suspense, and clearing accounts (e.g., Accounts Payable/Receivable, accruals, prepayments, and inter-entity accounts).
- Investigate and resolve all discrepancies and outstanding items identified during the reconciliation process, preparing and posting necessary adjustments and journals.
- Maintain the integrity of financial records within the department’s financial management information system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, TechnologyOne).
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure all financial transactions and processes adhere to relevant government legislation, financial policies, and departmental guidelines.
- Assist with month-end and year-end procedures, including compiling supporting documentation for audit purposes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and desktop procedures, particularly those related to cashflow and reconciliation activities.
Selection Criteria
Technical and Professional Expertise
- Demonstrated experience in a finance or accounting role, with a strong emphasis on cashflow management, high-volume bank, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Sound knowledge and practical application of accounting principles and financial management practices, preferably within a public sector or complex organisational environment.
- Proven proficiency in using large financial management information systems (e.g., SAP, TechnologyOne, Oracle) and advanced competence in Microsoft Excel.
Working with Others and Communication
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise with internal staff, management, and external stakeholders (e.g., banks, other agencies).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships while exercising professionalism and discretion.

- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when processing financial transactions and conducting reconciliations.
- Proven organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to prioritise a high volume of work to meet tight deadlines and reporting requirements.
- A proactive and solution-focused approach to identifying, analysing, and resolving financial discrepancies and issues with minimal supervision.
