2IC Transport Leader – Step Up to Transport Manager Exciting Opportunity to Drive Efficiency and Scale a Growing FMCG Fleet

Role Overview
Our client is a highly successful and rapidly growing, family-owned frozen food distributor based in Sydney south-west, providing a one-call solution to businesses across Greater Sydney and beyond. As they scale operations into a full 3PL model expanding into the greater NSW & ACT, they need a prospective, management-qualified 2IC Transport Leader ready to step up into the Transport Manager title.
To support this rapid growth, we need a strong, accountable leader who avoids "busy work" and excels at delegation to resolve current operational inefficiencies. You will be trained in allocation by senior leadership before taking full ownership of the 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM shift.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations:
- Supervise and manage a team of 74 drivers and operations members across NSW, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
- Manage the transport team during the 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM shift, maintaining high productivity and exceptional service standards.
- Coordinate daily operations utilizing transport management systems (TMS) such as Verizon, Fleetio, and SolBox (some knowledge is acceptable).
Efficiency, Accountability & Cost Reduction:
- Drastically reduce stock damage in transit by implementing robust internal accountability structures and penalties where necessary.
- Analyze and optimize route expenses, specifically focusing on reducing unnecessary Toll usage.
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure managerial oversight is maintained and operational bottlenecks are resolved.
Fleet Maintenance & Compliance:
- Oversee daily vehicle inspections, maintenance scheduling, and repair arrangements through Fleetio to ensure all vehicles are safe and operational.
- Maintain accurate vehicle and cargo records within the ERP system (Truckmate or similar experience preferred) in strict compliance with HACCP and company standards.
- Ensure all drivers hold up-to-date qualifications and training, maintaining compliance records in Employment Hero.
- Implement procedures to prevent vehicle overloading and ensure absolute cargo safety.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a 2IC Transport, Fleet Supervisor, or similar fleet management position.
- A Bachelor’s degree or similar professional certification in management is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to delegate effectively, manage a large team (70+ staff), and hold personnel accountable to KPIs.
- Proficiency in TMS (Fleetio, SolBox or similar), HR systems (Employment Hero), and ERP platforms (Truckmate preferred).
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair processes, and safety/HACCP compliance.
Salary & Work Rights
- $115K - $125K + Super.
- 10% to 15% performance bonus tied directly to improving success factors (reducing stock damage and toll expenses).
- Full Australian working rights required.
