Randstad is proud to partner with a prominent local government body to recruit a Team Leader Strategic Planning. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a visionary urban planning professional to lead a dedicated team in shaping the future of one of Sydney’s most iconic districts.
The Offer
- Base Salary: $105,618.30 – $126,273.28 p.a. (depending on experience) + 12% Super
- Allowances: $23,124.48 Deed Allowance (in recognition of regular overtime for evening meetings).
- Vehicle: Leaseback vehicle provided with dedicated parking in Double Bay.
- Work-Life Balance: 35-hour week with a fortnightly RDO and potential to work from home up to 2 days per week.
Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Planning & Place, you will provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team including Senior Strategic Planners and Urban Designers. Your core duties will include:
- Leadership: Overseeing the day-to-day activities, performance reviews, and professional development of the strategic planning team.
- Policy Development: Preparing and monitoring the Delivery Program and Operational Plan (DPOP), as well as statutory instruments like LEPs and DCPs.
- Advisory: Providing expert planning and placemaking advice to Council, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Reporting: Preparing high-quality, plain-English reports and briefings for Council committees and working parties.
- Community Engagement: Championing best-practice community consultation to ensure diverse feedback on planning strategies.
- Expert Witness: Acting as an expert witness in the Land and Environment Court when required.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Town Planning or a related field.
- Leadership Experience: Proven skills in team leadership and managing complex projects involving external consultants.
- Technical Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience in preparing and implementing LEPs, planning proposals, and contribution plans.
- Communication: Exceptional written and oral skills, with the ability to present complex information to public forums and committees.
- Research & Analysis: Strong proficiency in research and providing concise recommendations within tight statutory timeframes.
- Licensing: A current Class C driver’s licence.
- Desirable: Skills in urban design analysis and an IAP2 qualification.
