The primary purpose of this ongoing casual role is to provide expert-level concrete finishing and screeding services for Council's civil maintenance and infrastructure projects. A critical secondary function is to leverage extensive experience (4+ years minimum) to actively mentor, train, and upskill existing Council crews in proper concreting techniques, quality assurance, and site safety best practices.
Concrete Execution & Quality
... Perform all aspects of concrete placement, finishing, and shaping to an impeccable standard, including floating, trowelling, and achieving various surface finishes (e.g., broom finish, smooth).
Execute precision screeding and levelling using both hand tools and mechanical equipment (e.g., vibrating screeds) for footpaths, kerb and channel, slabs, and drainage structures.
Accurately measure, set out, and construct form work and boxing for specific concreting requirements.
Monitor concrete mix consistency, slump, and curing processes, making necessary on-site adjustments.
Training and Leadership
Act as a technical leader on site, providing clear, hands-on instruction and demonstration to up skill less experienced Council crew members.
Provide constructive feedback and guidance to ensure quality workmanship across the team.
Promote a positive and productive team environment that prioritise learning and safety.
Safety and Compliance
Strictly adhere to all Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies, procedures, and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
Conduct pre-start checks and Tool Box Talks, proactively identifying and mitigating potential site hazards.
Ensure all plant, tools, and equipment used are maintained, operated correctly, and safely stored.
Essential Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum 4+ years demonstrated experience as a highly skilled Concrete Finisher/Concrete Screed, preferably within civil infrastructure or a local government context.
Current Construction White Card.
Current Australian Driver's Licence.
Proven ability to train and mentor staff effectively.
Flexibility and ability to be available for shifts on short notice (up to 3 days per week).
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to WHS compliance.
