QA/QC Coatings Inspector | Defence Maritime

At Randstad, we are excited to be partnered with one of our premier defense clients who are at the forefront of naval asset engineering and lifecycle support. We are currently seeking for experienced Quality Control Inspectors to join a high-performing maritime sustainment program on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a strong pathway toward permanent placement.
In this vital role, you won't just check boxes, you will be the guardian of workmanship excellence, ensuring critical naval assets meet exact design parameters, engineering drawings, and international defense specifications. Working alongside a collaborative production team, you will drive a "right first time" culture through daily site surveillance, technical coaching, and robust quality data tracking.
What You’ll Be Doing:
On-the-Ground Surveillance: Conduct daily visual inspections and coating quality verifications against strict technical codes, specifications, and approved work orders.
Objective Verification: Gather clear, factual evidence to verify that physical builds seamlessly match design requirements and that all scheduled maintenance activities are flawlessly executed.
Data & Record Auditing: Review and monitor mandatory quality packs, Manufacturer Data Reports (MDRs), Closing Reports, and Task Progress Completion Certificates (TPCCs) to guarantee customer acceptance.
Mentorship & Culture: Provide informal training, coaching, and guidance to site Supervisors, Team Leads, and suppliers regarding workmanship expectations and standard compliance.
What We Are Looking For:
To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring a mix of heavy industrial quality control expertise and specialized technical certifications:
Coating Credentials: Must hold a valid NACE CIP Level 2, FROSIO Level 3, or equivalent recognized coating inspection qualification.
Technical Background: A tertiary qualification or equivalent trade experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or General Heavy Industry Quality disciplines.
Industry Edge: Prior experience working within maritime, shipbuilding, or heavy marine defense maintenance frameworks is highly desirable.
Standards & Regulations: A solid working knowledge of ISO 9001, continuous improvement principles, and Defence or Civil Technical Regulatory environments.
Communication Mastery: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate, collaborate across departments, and mentor team members to solve complex problems on-site.
Security Eligibility: Due to the nature of the projects, applicants must be Australian Citizens eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance.
