Band 6 - Management Accountant
We are currently seeking a Band 6 Management Accountant to join local council for an 8-month contract until November 2026, with possibility to extend:

- Located Brisbane CBD
- Hyrbid work arrangement
Key obligations include:
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare high-quality financial reports, statements, and returns in strict accordance with accounting standards, legislative requirements, and internal policies.
- Variance Analysis & Resolution: Proactively identify financial variances and investigate underlying issues to provide expert advice and corrective actions for any discrepancies.
- Period-End & Audit Management: Facilitate seamless month-end and year-end closing processes, providing comprehensive documentation and aid to internal and external auditors.
- Strategic Accounting Advisory: Serve as a subject matter expert by providing clear guidance to managers and colleagues on complex accounting practices, policies, and regulatory standards.
- Team Mentorship & Leadership: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring junior accountants and finance officers, directly supporting their professional growth and technical development.
- Governance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure organisational integrity by contributing to robust governance frameworks and adhering to risk management and audit requirements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with diverse finance teams to standardize reporting workflows, ensuring enterprise-wide consistency and data alignment.
- Systems Integrity (SAP): Maintain and safeguard the accuracy of financial data within SAP and integrated enterprise systems, ensuring a "single source of truth" for all reporting.
To be Successful in this role:
You’ll be an experienced Management Accountant with proven experience and reliability in previous government positions. You will possess the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance, or CPA/CA qualification completed or in progress
- High-level experience in preparing reconciliations, journals, and financial statements in a large organisation.
- Experience using SAP or other enterprise accounting systems.
- Previous government experience (desirable)
