As an ambitious and inclusive organisation, Brisbane 2032 offers the rare opportunity to contribute your skills to the world’s largest sporting and multicultural events. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and bring their experience to help shape an inclusive Games. As part of your application, we’d love to hear what motivates you to join us for this 6-month sprint and how your background will help us deliver on our vision. As part of this application process, we encourage you to share your motivation to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and your lived experience which will help you contribute to these Games.
About the Role
As an Experience Design Consultant for Brisbane 2032, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic foundation of the Games by defining clear and consistent experience priorities and translating them into actionable principles that guide organisational decision-making and stakeholder engagement. Operating at a strategic level, you will clarify stakeholder needs, establish shared frameworks, and set the decision guardrails necessary for teams to make informed trade-offs across cost, scope, complexity and time. Your work will directly influence high-level planning and investment decisions, creating a shared language for stakeholder experience and laying the critical groundwork for all subsequent service and delivery design across the organisation and its partners. This is a 6 month fixed term contract opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Articulate what matters most to priority stakeholders by leading structured discovery and synthesis across internal and external perspectives, ensuring clarity on stakeholder needs, expectations and success criteria.
- Define experience principles and decision guardrails that guide organisational choices, clarify priorities, and support consistent trade offs across cost, time, scope and complexity.
- Establish a shared experience framework that creates common language and understanding across the organisation and delivery partners, informing planning, investment and scoping decisions.
- Enable leaders and teams to apply experience principles in practice, supporting alignment discussions and embedding experience led thinking early in decision making rather than retrofitting it later.
- Embed experience perspectives into stakeholder engagement plans
- Lay the foundations for future experience and service design work, ensuring that early principles and guidance clearly enable subsequent journey mapping, service level definition and demand modelling.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated senior experience in experience strategy, service design, human centred design or strategic design, with a strong emphasis on principles and decision making (not just journey mapping).
- Proven ability to operate in complex, multi stakeholder environments with political, financial and delivery constraints.
- Highly collaborative — working closely with Strategy, Stakeholder Engagement, Functional Areas and Games Delivery Partners.
- Strong capability in enabling leaders, teams and partners to be successful at a strategic level and leading through influence rather than direct authority.
- Strong synthesis skills — able to distil complexity into crisp, usable guidance.
- Credibility working with executives and senior leaders on strategy, trade offs and priorities.
- Experience facilitating structured workshops and alignment sessions.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and shaping unformed problem spaces.
- Experience in large scale programs, public sector, major events or infrastructure adjacent environments desirable.
