About the Opportunity
Are you an audit professional looking to apply your expertise to a high-profile Federal Government client? We are seeking an Assistant Director, Audit & Assurance to join a mission-driven department in the Sydney CBD.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into Australia’s clean energy and environmental initiatives. Working within the Office of the CFO, you will play a critical role in ensuring that the agency meets its business objectives through robust risk management and excellent assurance operations.
The Impact You Will Make
As a key member of the Risk and Assurance team, you will lead a wide range of internal audit and general assurance activities:
- Coordinate the internal audit program, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring deliverables.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and internal audit service providers (including the ANAO).
- Support the continuous improvement of assurance and control frameworks, preparing high-quality briefs and papers for Senior Executives and Audit Committees.
- Build a positive culture around audit by developing strong relationships across various business areas to influence and support audit outcomes.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve audit coordination, reporting, and follow-up practices.
What You Bring
To be successful in this EL1 role, you will be a dynamic and responsive professional with:
- Demonstrated experience in internal audit, risk management, or governance preferably within a Commonwealth or public sector context.
- The ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and exercise initiative when managing complex stakeholder relationships.
- Strong written and verbal skills, with experience preparing executive-level advice and influencing business areas to implement recommendations.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, audit, or risk are highly desirable.
