We are seeking a highly skilled Senior RTI Officer (AO6) to join a fast-paced team supporting both the Department and the Office of the Minister. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of complex RTI and IP applications, ensuring the department meets its statutory obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009.

Your Key Responsibilities:
As an AO6 Senior Officer, your focus will be on the end-to-end management of complex information access requests:
● Decision Making: Exercise delegated authority to process and finalise complex RTI and IP applications.
● Specialist Advice: Provide accurate and timely technical advice to departmental officers and the Minister’s Office regarding legislative requirements.
● Statement of Reasons: Draft legally robust and defensible Statements of Reasons and executive briefings with high attention to detail.
● System Support: Assist the Manager and Principal Officers in maintaining best-practice policies and procedures aligned with the Queensland Public Service (QPS) framework.
● Privacy & Compliance: Support the handling of privacy complaints and contribute to the department’s statutory reporting and compliance obligations.
● Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a point of contact for regulatory bodies (such as the OIC) and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Technical Skills & Qualifications:
● Legislative Expertise: Demonstrated practical experience and a deep understanding of the RTI Act 2009 and IP Act 2009.
● Public Sector Experience: Prior experience at an AO5 or AO6 level within a Queensland Government RTI unit is highly regarded.
● Advanced Communication: Proven ability to communicate complex legal or procedural concepts clearly, both in writing and verbally.
● Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex information and apply legislative public interest tests to diverse sets of documents.
