While you don’t require formal qualifications to become a painter, consider completing a Certificate III in painting and decorating. You can pursue a course as part of an apprenticeship programme and combine coursework with on-the-job training to gain experience. Before working as a painter, you need to register with the National Institute of Painting and Decorating. In Australia, you also need a White Card to work on construction sites.
