About the Role
An innovative leader in sustainable Australian fresh produce is seeking a hands-on Packing Operations Supervisor to join their growing facility in Mallala, SA. Managed exclusively through Randstad, we are actively seeking candidates who are local to the Mallala area or within an easy local commute.
Utilising a first-of-its-kind moving platform hydroponic growing system in Australia, all planting, harvesting, grading, packing, and dispatch operations take place collaboratively within the primary packing facility. Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will lead day-to-day operations, ensuring produce is grown, packed, and dispatched to exceptional quality, safety, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
... Operational Supervision: Oversee daily planting, harvesting, sorting, grading, packing, and dispatch tasks within the main hydroponic packing shed.
Team Leadership & Rostering: Supervise, train, and roster a dedicated team of packhouse staff, fostering a positive, productive team culture.
Quality & Logistics: Ensure produce meets strict grading and quality specifications, coordinating harvest and packing schedules to guarantee on-time customer delivery.
Data & KPI Tracking: Collect and record precise crop performance data, pack-out rates, pest/disease observations, and operational metrics to inform business decisions.
Food Safety & Compliance: Maintain and enforce strict food safety, biosecurity, and Work Health & Safety (WHS) regulations across all packing shed activities.
Equipment Oversight: Monitor and assist with basic maintenance of packing equipment and site systems to ensure smooth daily flow.
What We Are Looking For
Local Commitment: Candidates residing in or local to Mallala, SA (or within a short local commute).
Supervisory Experience: Proven experience as a supervisor or team leader in agriculture, horticulture, packhouse, or fresh produce environments.
Technical & Post-Harvest Skills: Strong understanding of post-harvest handling, automated/mechanical packing machinery, and produce grading.
Learning Agility: Willingness to learn hydroponic growing technology, crop management, and pest/disease monitoring.
Essential Requirements: Valid driver’s licence and full working rights in Australia.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
Certificate or Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a relevant field.
Chemical Application Accreditation and/or a valid Forklift Ticket.
Experience with food safety compliance frameworks (e.g., HACCP, Freshcare, SQF).
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
Ability to work comfortably across varied environments within the shed, including warmer growing zones and cooler dispatch zones.
Availability to work flexible shift patterns, including early morning starts, peak harvest demands, and occasional weekend shifts as required.
