About the Role
The Manager, Athlete Relations and Experience will report to the Chief Sport Officer and forms part of the Sport and Athlete Division.
This role is focussed on developing and maintaining strong relationships with domestic and international athletes and their representative bodies, on behalf of the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee. This role is integral to the early involvement and participation of athletes in the success of the Games and plays an important representation role in multiple forums.
The role requires a strategic approach, strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills and the ability to work across multiple groups simultaneously, always prioritising the athlete experience. A critical element of the role is the active engagement with the Brisbane 2032 Athlete and Sport Advisory Group, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), Paralympics Australia (PA) and their respective Athletes’ Commissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Athlete and Sport Advisory Group (ASAG), developing a forward schedule of meetings and topics, working across the organisation to ensure the Advisory Group are informed and engaged in relevant Games planning activities.
- Coordinate Brisbane 2032’s regular interface with the Athletes’ Commissions of the IOC, IPC, AOC and PA, and broader Olympian and Paralympian communities.
- Coordinate athlete engagement activities across Brisbane 2032, working with relevant functional areas, the IOC, IPC, AOC and PA, to ensure athletes are meaningfully engaged in Games planning.
- Coordinate the development of the Brisbane 2032 athlete experience, including defining and delivering key initiatives that will maximise the athlete experience, ensuring initiatives are inclusive, accessible and designed around the diverse needs of all athletes, before, during and after the Games.
- Coordinate regular engagement with the AOC and PA including key leadership and Games planning, sport and athlete-specific forums and meetings.
- Be a strong advocate for the Athlete experience across all levels of the organisation.
- Support initial engagement with National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) (until a dedicated resource is appointed), developing relevant content including newsletters, presentations, website updates and reports, ensuring these key stakeholders remain informed of planning activities and developments.
- Facilitate regular engagement with Continental Associations, with a specific focus on the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) and Oceania Paralympic Committee (OPC).
Skills and Experience
- A background as a professional athlete, olympian or paralympian preferred but is not essential
- Strong relationship management experience in a sporting or athlete engagement context.
- Strong understanding of athlete wellbeing, inclusion, accessibility and safeguarding principles.
- Experience in cross cultural communication and engagement.
- Experience in delivering events including high profile media activities.
- Strong organisational skills including the ability to coordinate multiple streams of work at once.
- Excellent communication skills including drafting digital content and confidence to develop and publish content independently.
- Experience in advocacy with different groups of people and understanding of the different stakeholder needs including regional, international and people from different backgrounds.
- Appreciation of the important perspectives of athletes within the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.
- This role may require travel domestically and internationally.
