Hourly Rate: $96.19 per hour + superannuation
About the Role
Are you an expert RTI and Privacy practitioner with proven leadership capabilities? We are seeking a Principal Right to Information & Privacy Advisor to lead, manage, and administer departmental compliance with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) across a dynamic portfolio.
In this high-level advisory position, you will oversee complex access and privacy matters, exercise delegated statutory decision-making authority, mentor team members, and drive privacy risk governance across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
...- Expert Advisory: Provide high-level guidance to departmental officers and the public on complex RTI Act, IP Act, and access practices.
- Complex Case Management: Lead complex legislative and non-legislative access requests, including subpoenas, non-party disclosures, and requests under the Public Sector Regulation 2023 (Qld).
- Delegated Decision-Making: Exercise statutory decision-making powers under the RTI and IP Acts, producing succinct, high-quality, and legally sound Statements of Reasons.
- Team Mentorship & Leadership: Manage and mentor team members to ensure accuracy, quality standards, and strict adherence to statutory timelines.
- Privacy Risk Governance: Lead complex Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), identify emerging risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and manage responses to privacy data breaches under the Mandatory Notification Data Breach scheme.
- Strategic Policy Development: Review and improve policies, procedures, and practical tools to ensure best practice across the department.
- High-Level Stakeholder Management: Build and foster strong collaborative relationships with internal divisions and external oversight bodies, including the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC).
About You
- Extensive expertise in the application and interpretation of the RTI Act 2009 (Qld) and IP Act 2009 (Qld).
- Demonstrated ability to exercise delegated decision-making powers and draft complex Statements of Reasons.
- Proven track record in mentoring staff and leading complex Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to represent the organization effectively with external regulatory bodies.
