aps5/6 program officer

Randstad is partnering with a Federal Government body to recruit two Program Officers (APS5 & APS6 equivalent) to join a high-performing team delivering national programs.

Working under limited guidance, you will undertake moderately complex program management tasks, engage key stakeholders, support governance and financial workflows, and assist with executive reporting.

Role Responsibilities

• Milestone & Agreement Management: Assess milestone reports, variation requests, output/outcome reports, and final deliverables to make policy-aligned recommendations.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise regularly with internal and external stakeholders, project partners, delivery agencies, and program representatives.
• Executive & Ministerial Advice: Draft briefings, Ministerial submissions, Senate Estimates briefs, emails, and options papers with clear recommendations and sensitivity assessments.
• Governance & Finance: Assist with project tracking, risk management, financial processing, agreement variations, and payment approvals in corporate systems.
• Program Communications: Support, write, and review communication collateral including presentations, talking points, press releases, website updates, and media content.
• Team Support & Leadership: Mentor and support junior team members to assist overall program delivery outcomes (APS6 focus).
• Travel & Field Work: Periodically undertake field work in remote and regional locations as required.

Key Selection Criteria

• Security Clearance: Must hold an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.
• Program & Grants Administration: Demonstrated experience managing program deliverables, grant agreements, milestone evaluations, or contract variations.
• Written & Verbal Communication: Proven ability to draft formal briefings, submissions, reports, or external communications.
• Subject Matter Adaptability: Capacity to engage with technical or specialized subjects such as agriculture, science, geography, engineering, or media.
• Systems Proficiency: Experience using electronic records management systems, financial monitoring platforms, and data reporting tools.
