Assistant Materials Officer
The purpose of the Assistant Materials Officer is to provide assistance to materials practitioners and undertake a range of activities including sampling, basic construction materials tests, field investigations and instrumentation.
Role Responsibilities:
- Undertaking basic materials classification and compliance tests, and assist materials testing practitioners with other tests including specialist tests.
- Assist with sampling, equipment checking and calibration, investigations and instrumentation.
- Use all equipment, apparatus and reagents in keeping with documented procedures as well as ensure all personal protection equipment (PPE) and other safety devices are used when and as directed.
- Ensure operational practices and standards of service and performance comply with departmental and regional policies, legislation (incl. WHS) and governance obligations.
- A significant percentage of your work requires regular and repeated physical tasks involving heavy testing equipment, shovelling, walking through adverse terrain and lifting heavy samples up to 25kg.
- This role requires significant amounts of calculations utilising both manual and software-based tools. The successful applicant will require sound numeracy skills.
Trainee Materials Officer
In the role of Trainee Materials Officer, you will undertake activities associated with sampling and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt used in road transport infrastructure construction.
Role Responsibilities:
- Perform materials testing procedures under supervision in accordance with departmental standards, specifications, policies and procedures.
- Assist with investigation and research projects using project management principles.
- Assist in the analysis of test data ensuring consistency in accuracy and timely output of work.
- Ensure operational practices and standards of service and performance comply with departmental and regional policies, legislation (incl. WHS) and governance obligations.
- Use all equipment, apparatus and reagents in keeping with documented procedures as well as ensure all personal protection equipment (PPE) and other safety devices are used when and as directed.
- The role requires these tasks be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments at any time of the calendar year and may at times be working under supervision in isolated locations.
- Assist with field work, travel with experienced staff on pavement investigations and site sampling exercises to various locations within the region.
- A significant percentage of your work requires regular and repeated physical tasks involving heavy testing equipment, shovelling, walking through adverse terrain and lifting heavy samples up to 25kg.
