About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and analytical Senior Finance Officer for an immediate up to 4-month temporary contract based fully onsite in Perth. Joining a highly collaborative finance team, you will manage financial processes, handle complex reconciliations, perform variance analysis, and provide key financial reporting support.
This position is ideal for a proactive finance professional who possesses strong accounting fundamentals, excels in systems and data analysis, and can hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
Note: The team operates continuously through the end-of-year holiday period, so there is no mandatory Christmas shutdown (leave can be requested and approved, but operational coverage is required).
Key Responsibilities
Financial Processes & Reconciliations: Oversee daily financial processes, conduct complex month-end account reconciliations, and manage financial accruals.
Variance & Data Analysis: Investigate and analyze financial database variances, identify trends or anomalies, and resolve transactional issues.
System & Process Improvement: Assist with the development, documentation, and automation of financial procedures and internal control mechanisms.
Reporting & Query Resolution: Develop management reports and investigate/resolve complex stakeholder and customer financial queries.
Ad Hoc Analysis: Deliver financial analysis and support operational projects as required by team leadership.
Key Requirements & Skills
Technical & Accounting Foundation: Strong understanding of core financial and accounting principles, database management, and month-end financial procedures.
Advanced Systems Experience: Advanced Excel capabilities (Power Query skills highly regarded) and exposure to enterprise ERP systems (e.g., Oracle).
Analytical Mindset: Proven ability to spot anomalies, interpret complex transactional data, and communicate financial findings clearly.
Industry Background: Prior experience in State Government or the Public Sector is highly desirable (open to strong private sector candidates with transferable skill sets).
Soft Skills & Work Style: Highly collaborative, engaging, and solution-focused with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
