On behalf of our client, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) – North Coast Region, we are actively seeking two (2) experienced Senior Cultural Heritage Officers for 2-year internal contractor positions.
Embedded within the Program Delivery & Operations (PDO) team under the Infrastructure Management and Delivery Division, you will play a crucial role in planning, delivering, and protecting key transport infrastructure across Queensland.
If you are passionate about cultural heritage management, fostering meaningful partnerships with Traditional Owner groups, and working on impactful state road corridor projects, these roles offer the perfect balance of field and strategic advisory work.
In this role, you will provide critical subject-matter expertise across Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural heritage throughout all phases of Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) infrastructure projects:
Expert Advisory: Act as the Senior Cultural Heritage lead across multiple infrastructure project delivery teams, guiding planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
Stakeholder & Traditional Owner Engagement: Promote, foster, and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders, in particular Traditional Owner groups and native title representative bodies.
Compliance & Governance: Ensure compliance with relevant state/federal heritage legislation, statutory duty of care, and departmental environmental policies and procedures.
Documentation & Strategy: Conduct assessments, author heritage management plans (CHMPs), cultural heritage agreements, due diligence assessments, and regional reports.
Fieldwork & Inspections: Coordinate and participate in on-site field surveys, monitoring programs, archaeological investigations, and regular regional audits/inspections.
Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly alongside the wider Environment & Cultural Heritage team to achieve sustainable, project-wide outcomes.
Mandatory Requirements:
Tertiary Qualification: A degree from a recognized tertiary institution in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage Management, or a closely related discipline.
Licences: Current valid Australian Class C driver's licence.
Safety: A valid General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or the immediate ability to obtain one.
Background Check: Willingness to undergo a pre-employment Criminal History Check (due to access to sensitive site data).
Skills & Experience:
Demonstrated experience in cultural heritage management (Indigenous and historical/non-Indigenous) at both strategic and project-delivery levels.
Proven track record in conducting cultural heritage assessments, drafting management plans, and managing cultural heritage agreements.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated success in consulting and collaborating with Traditional Owner groups.
Willingness and physical capability to undertake regional travel and regular field inspections.
Desirable (Advantageous):
Experience managing cultural heritage within civil infrastructure, road, or major engineering environments.
Active membership with relevant professional bodies (e.g., Australian Archaeological Association (AAA), Australia ICOMOS, etc.).
At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
