To support their ongoing commitment to world-class environmental research and spatial analysis, we are seeking a Bore Verification Field Officer for an initial 12-month contract.
In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining groundwater data integrity under Chapter 3 of the Water Act 2000. Working at the intersection of desktop spatial analysis and field investigation, you will verify baseline bore data, engage directly with regional landholders, and ensure critical monitoring datasets are robust and defensible.
Key Responsibilities
...- Desktop Verification & Data Maintenance:
- Validate water bore identities, precise coordinates, and construction details using spatial tools, historical records, and hydrogeological databases.
- Review aquifer assignments and interpret stratigraphy/lithology to ensure correct formation attribution.
- Maintain lifecycle datasets under Chapter 3 of the Water Act 2000 and update corporate databases accordingly.
- Field Verification & Landholder Engagement:
- Plan, organise, and coordinate logistics for regional field trips across priority areas.
- Conduct on-site inspections of bores of interest to verify physical location, condition, and operational status.
- Engage with rural landholders and regional stakeholders to negotiate access, arrange visits, and communicate project objectives professionally.
- Monitoring Network & Quality Control:
- Perform quality control (QA/QC) checks across incoming groundwater monitoring datasets.
- Assist with reporting and documentation for the implementation of the regional Water Monitoring Strategy network.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science, Spatial Science (GIS), or an equivalent earth science discipline.
- Data & GIS Proficiency: Demonstrated experience querying, checking, and maintaining environmental or borehole datasets using GIS platforms (ArcGIS/QGIS) and database systems.
- Technical Understanding: Familiarity with bore construction, aquifer systems, and geological stratigraphy.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: High emotional intelligence and clear communication skills, with the confidence to build rapport with rural property owners.
- Field Readiness: A valid Open Australian Driver’s Licence (manual/4WD experience advantageous) and willingness to undertake scheduled regional field campaigns.
It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
