3-Month Full Time Temporary Position (Potential for Extension)
$60 + per hour depending on experience
An exciting opportunity is currently available for a detail-oriented and motivated Paralegal for an immediate start to join a dedicated team located in Brisbane. This is a full-time, temporary position working within a leading native title service provider.
If you are a legal support professional who enjoys working across interdisciplinary teams and has a passion for supporting traditional owners to pursue their native title rights, this is the role for you.
You will assist in the delivery of a comprehensive and holistic legal service under the guidance of a qualified legal practitioner and direction of the Deputy Principal Lawyer. You will support traditional owners and Prescribed Bodies Corporate across the Southern and Western Queensland region. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Legal Documentation & Research: Performing research on case law and claim groups, as well as assisting with the preparation of legal documents, affidavits, applications, legal submissions, and briefs.
- Court & Administrative Support: Filing and servicing court documents, delivering and retrieving briefs to/from Barristers' chambers, performing transcription duties, and taking meeting minutes.
- Stakeholder Liaison & Communication: Drafting correspondence and newsletters, assisting with meeting preparations, and attending workshops and seminars.
- Project & Risk Management: Collaborating with Client Management Teams (CMT) to assist with client management plans, monitor risks, and provide regular updates on matter activities.
- Systems Management: Managing records according to information management standards, ensuring currency on project tracking platforms, and actively maintaining internal legal databases.
We are looking for an organised, self-motivated professional with a collaborative approach to legal administration. To be successful, you will possess:
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency on a Windows platform, Microsoft Office suite, and experience with database and workflow management tools.
- Industry Background: Previous experience in a paralegal role is desirable, along with a demonstrated knowledge of the cultural, political, economic, environmental, and social issues affecting First Nations people.
- Communication Style: Sound oral and written communication skills, an excellent telephone manner, and the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Resilience & Capabilities: Exceptional organisational skills, high attention to detail, a current open driver’s licence, and the ability to undertake regular travel throughout Queensland and work occasional weekends as needed.
