Are you a strategic policy professional who wants to make an impact on a national scale by driving policy delivery, stakeholder engagement, and strategic reform?
I am currently partnering with a prominent Federal Government client in the disability sector with an exciting and specialised role of EL1 Assistant Director, Strategic Policy. This is a critical role within the agency's policy and reform functions.
About the Opportunity
In this key role, you will lead the delivery and implementation of key reform projects and translate high-level thinking into strategic products for senior executives and Ministers. You will apply structured problem-solving, evaluate risks in a complex operating environment, and lead policy development to advance key national initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the delivery, implementation, and analysis of reform projects and strategic policy issues in line with broader reform programs.
- Translating high-level thinking into high-quality strategic products, including papers, reports, presentations, briefings, and ministerial correspondence.
- Engaging, negotiating, and building unified positions with internal and external stakeholders to influence practical solutions for policy implementation.
- Collecting and analysing data to inform advice, recommendations, and risk evaluations in a dynamic environment.
- Providing team leadership, contributing to a positive workplace culture, and managing resources effectively.
Ideally you will possess:
- Analytical & Conceptual Skills: Proven ability to rapidly solve complex problems at pace using hypothesis-led or structured methodologies with limited direction.
- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication, judgement, and negotiation skills to build productive relationships and handle feedback constructively.
- Adaptability & Drive: Strong ability to flexibly adapt and lead changing priorities within a complex operating environment, with a passion for driving reform.
- Policy & Government Expertise: Experience developing strategic policy, working with government audiences, and managing program governance or project planning methodologies.
- Desirable Experience: Exposure to disability reform, complex procurements, legislative frameworks, or strategic commissioning.
