Are you an experienced policy officer who wants to make an impact on a national scale by supporting critical policy reform, developing strategic initiatives, and improving participant outcomes within the disability sector?
I am currently partnering with a prominent Federal Government client in the disability sector with an exciting and specialised role of APS6 Policy Officer. This is a critical role within the division, responsible for managing complex policy analysis, reform projects, and strategic policy implementation.
About the Opportunity
In this role, you will contribute to reform policy, strategies, and projects related to key reform agendas. Working under limited guidance, you will apply sound judgement, technical inputs, and strong analytical skills to manage complex and sensitive issues while driving efficient and effective outcomes for the sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing reform policy, strategies, and projects aligned with sector reform programs.
- Preparing high-standard policy documents, briefs, reports, presentations, and corporate correspondence for government audiences.
- Building, managing, and maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through active engagement.
- Applying structured analytical frameworks, research, and data inputs to form practical recommendations on complex issues.
- Exercising sound judgement and initiative under limited supervision within governance and authorising arrangements.
- Flexibly adapting to emerging priorities and managing competing demands in an evolving operating environment.
Ideally you will possess:
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with the ability to write effectively for a government audience.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing strategic policy, briefs, and reports.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with a collaborative working style.
- Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and adapt flexibly to changing priorities.
- Experience or knowledge in disability sector reform, legislative frameworks, strategic commissioning, or Commonwealth procurement rules (highly desirable).
- Expertise in program governance, project planning methodologies, or complex procurement (desirable).
