About the Role
In this role you will drive integrated communications and stakeholder strategies that build confidence, understanding, and support for the Games. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will act as a strategic advisor to leadership, delivering proactive media campaigns and compelling narratives to promote organisational priorities across internal and external audiences. Navigating a highly scrutinised environment, you will build influential relationships with a range of stakeholders to expertly manage the organisation's reputation and strengthen broad community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver integrated communications strategies, narrative frameworks, key messaging, and engagement approaches that promote organisational priorities and key milestones, while strengthening overall understanding of and support for Brisbane 2032
- Lead the planning and execution of multi-channel communications campaigns and initiatives, ensuring messages are coordinated, audience-focused and aligned across media, digital, stakeholder, executive and employee communication channels.
- Contribute strategic advice to the President, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team on communications, media, issues management, and reputational matters, while developing executive communications, including speeches, presentations, and briefing materials, to support leadership engagement and organisational priorities.
- Lead proactive media engagement activities that position Brisbane 2032 positively through strategic story development, media opportunities and relationship management.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with journalists, editors, producers and media organisations to support Brisbane 2032 strategic objectives and contribute to balanced, informed and accurate coverage.
- Manage media enquiries, reactive communications and issues responses, ensuring timely, accurate and coordinated communication.
- Identify emerging issues, risks and sensitivities and support issues management and crisis communication responses that protect and enhance organisational reputation.
- Build productive relationships across Brisbane 2032, Games Delivery Partners, government and key stakeholders to align messaging, manage competing interests and achieve communication outcomes.
- Lead organisational communications that engage employees in strategic priorities and organisational change, fostering understanding, alignment and cross-functional collaboration.
- Monitor media coverage, stakeholder sentiment and communication effectiveness, providing insights and recommendations to inform strategy and decision-making.
Skills and Experience
- Significant experience in communications, media, journalism, public affairs or related fields, within a complex, high-profile and stakeholder-rich environment.
- Demonstrated experience in a newsroom, journalism or media-facing communications role, with a strong understanding of media operations, news cycles and editorial decision-making.
- Proven experience developing and delivering integrated, multi-channel communications campaigns.
- Demonstrated success building productive working relationships and influencing outcomes across complex stakeholder environments
- Experience identifying and managing reputational risks and contributing to issues management and crisis communication responses.
- Demonstrated experience advising senior executives on communications, media and reputation matters.
- Strong judgement, political awareness and stakeholder management skills, particularly in sensitive or high-profile situations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex information into clear, compelling and audience-focused messages.
