About Your Next Role
Randstad has proudly partnered with ALPA, the NT's powerhouse Aboriginal-owned corporation, to recruit extraordinary talent for transformative roles.
We’re looking for a warm, welcoming coordinator who is ready to swap the daily grind daily - or the bore of retirement - for the pristine coastline of the Crocodile Islands. Our ideal coordinator is eager to brew meaningful community connections, excited to take in Yolŋu Culture through everyday community life and is enriched by building capacity through sharing their practical skills.
Do you enjoy baking, making a great cup of coffee, serving food, and have a passion for encouraging, mentoring, and supporting others?
As the Café Program Coordinator, you will run ALPA’s Community Café Project in Milingimbi under the Remote Activity and Employment Scheme (RAES). Working side-by-side with Yolŋu supervisors and participants, you will combine light food prep, barista service, and kitchen mentoring with community engagement to create a welcoming local hub that supports health and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Café Operations: Coordinate daily light food prep (sandwiches, baked goods, simple meals), barista service, stock ordering, cash handling, and kitchen hygiene.
- Mentoring & Capacity Building: Work side-by-side with local participant crews to share practical skills in food handling, coffee making, customer service, and workplace confidence.
- Food Safety & Compliance: Maintain strict food hygiene, kitchen sanitisation, and correct food storage in line with NT Health requirements.
- Site Logistics & Reporting: Oversee daily inventory, basic stock reordering, site logistics, and simple operational reporting.
- Community Hub: Foster a warm, respectful, and culturally safe space for locals, Elders, visitors, and workers to connect.
What You Will Bring
Mandatory Licences & Qualifications:
- NT Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Certificate (or willingness to complete online certification prior to starting).
- Unrestricted Driver’s Licence (Manual).
- NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or ability to obtain.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification or ability to obtain.
Skills & Experience:
- Practical background in hospitality, cooking, baking, café work, or retail food service (no formal management background required!).
- Demonstrated ability to guide, mentor, and encourage team members in a supportive, hands-on environment.
- High-level cultural awareness and adaptability to live and work respectfully within remote First Nations communities.
- Basic understanding of kitchen safety, hygiene standards, and everyday stock organization.
What You Will Get in Return (The Benefits Package)
This role offers an extraordinary lifestyle and financial package valued at over $120,000+ per year, including:
- Competitive Cash Base: $75,000 – $85,000 per annum (commensurate with experience).
- 14% Superannuation: Significantly higher than the national standard.
- Fully Subsidised Accommodation: Free shared housing with electricity and utility bills fully paid.
- NFP Tax Benefits: Access generous PBI Salary Packaging options (up to $15,900 everyday expenses + $2,650 meals) to significantly increase your take-home pay.
- 7 Weeks Annual Leave: Plus 17.5% leave loading and 2x paid return flights to Darwin per year for travel and recreation.
- Allowances: Monthly Phone allowance.
- Relocation Support: Relocation assistance provided from anywhere in Australia to transition to community.
- Real Impact: A rewarding opportunity to empower local employment, support food security, and work on beautiful Yolŋu Sea Country.
