About the Role
My client is seeking a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) in Structural Engineering to join a leading Queensland State Government department supporting their Heavy Vehicle Access Management Program.
In this role, you will provide expert structural engineering capacity to support bridge asset management, perform complex heavy vehicle load assessments, and research strategies to optimise and protect Queensland’s vital road transport infrastructure. You will work within the Engineering and Technology Structures Branch under direct department supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Bridge & Access Assessments: Undertake structural analysis, bridge capacity assessments, and heavy vehicle load assessments across general access and freight networks to support State and National access policies.
Asset Data & Database Audits: Perform data quality audits on asset management databases and systems against engineering drawings, Level 2 inspection reports, and structural assessments to ensure accurate decision-making.
Structure Management Plans (SMPs): Prepare, draft, and certify SMPs for condition- or capacity-constrained structures in collaboration with regional asset owners.
Process Automation & Strategy: Streamline and automate existing business procedures, supporting policies and strategies for excess mass vehicle operations across Queensland.
Permit & Project Support: Contribute to processing high-volume permit requirements (10,000–20,000 range) and deliver ad-hoc structural projects relating to network upgrades and future planning.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Mandatory Certification: Must hold current RPEQ status (Structural Engineering).
A minimum of 5 years specifically in Structural Design, Structural Capacity Assessment, and/or Heavy Vehicle Access.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in structural analysis and design (preferably related to bridge structures).
Demonstrated experience working with asset management inventory systems and databases.
Strong expertise in interpreting Level 2 bridge inspection reports and evaluating engineering risk.
