About the Role
Randstad Australia is partnering with a leading civil infrastructure contractor delivering major road maintenance programs across Victoria. Our client manages road network operations, structural upkeep, and civil asset preservation to ensure safe and reliable transport infrastructure.
This position focuses on planning, executing, managing, and reporting on civil maintenance works with VicRoads / Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
Operating on-site from Somerton, the Site Engineer coordinates daily field delivery across freeways, highways, and arterial roads to meet contract KPIs, safety standards, and commercial targets.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver road maintenance projects on time, within budget, and to contract specifications.
Update weekly forward programs, and weekly works forecasts for supervisors and clients.
Confirm job scope, costs, and resource allocation prior to execution.
Coordinate daily on-site delivery, including crew readiness, traffic management setup, and resource reallocation to prevent delays.
Carry out maintenance across pavement and surface repairs, verge reshaping, environmental crack sealing, and paved area upkeep.
Manage roadside safety assets, including wire rope barriers, guard fencing, concrete barriers, crash cushions, and safety gates.
Oversee structural asset maintenance, including bridge deck joints, bearings, structural concrete, steel/timber elements, and incident damage rectification.
Direct drainage, stormwater, and waterway operations, covering culverts, pipes, pits, fauna crossings, scuppers, and floodways.
Manage asset presentation, vandalism repairs, and graffiti treatment.
Complete monthly Zero Harm engagements, lead toolbox talks, verify site permits (TGA, MOA, ATWP), and ensure adherence to SWMS and PPE requirements.
Complete quality assurance documentation, maintain daily site records, upload before-and-after photos, and resolve non-conformance.
Process purchase orders, track spend against budgets, and manage daily and weekly invoice processing and progress claims.
Manage subcontractor bookings, hold crews accountable for compliance, and respond to DTP queries.
Requirements & Qualifications
Tertiary degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years of experience in project delivery, maintenance, or civil infrastructure works.
Demonstrated experience planning, scheduling, budgeting, and managing subcontractors on site.
Technical knowledge of civil assets, including pavements, drainage, traffic control, street furniture, signage, kerb and channel, and roadside structures.
Nice to have proficiency in Asset Vision, SharePoint, Power BI, Lucidity, and Excel.
Strong organisational, problem-solving, and budget-tracking abilities.
Ability to work on-site in Somerton
Valid work eligibility in Australia and completion of standard pre-employment checks, including a reference check and pre-employment medical assessment.
